Former Louis Vuitton and Tumi execs partnered to create luggage that’s seriously chic‚Äîand functional.
Billed as “a carry-on reimagined for the design-obsessed,” the luggage from newly-launched travel brand Arlo Skye is, well, just that. Super lightweight, with a built-in portable charger that can be removed without opening the case, and patented wheels that promise to be 15 percent quieter than their squeakier counterparts, this is a suitcase that embodies the word sleek.
It’s not surprising, considering the brand’s pedigree: Founders include CEO Mayur Bhatnagar, who was formerly an executive at Louis Vuitton, and Chief Design Officer Denielle Wolfe, who previously oversaw the design department at Tumi. “We made every decision deliberately, as an artist would,” said Wolfe in a released statement. “Every detail is purposeful, yet restrained. It leaves room for the user’s self-expression.”
Aside from charging capability and those whisper-quiet wheels, the Arlo Skye carry-on bag has, in a somewhat radical move, eliminated the usual outer zipper. Instead, the bag can be opened with a simple one-touch system to allow for quick access to everything inside. It’s an elegant solution to the standard zipper, which is exactly why the tweak was made.
The luggage is available in three chic colors—Penguin black, Sardine silver, and Champagne—and can currently be pre-ordered for $495. One thing is for sure: This is a carry-on that will get you noticed at the airport, in a good way.
